Q. How do I know that you are a genuine company working for a registered
charity?
A. LCRSL is a UK registered company, working in partnership with a number of
UK based registered charities.
Each donation bag posted through your letter box will have;
• Our company logo on it
• Our contact details here in the UK (address and telephone no.)
• The charity’s name and charity registration number.
All of our collectors wear LCRSL collection badges to help you identify them and most will have marked collection vehicles.
LCRSL do not post leaflets we only post donation bags which are clearly marked with the day of collection, for more information please refer to the ‘how to identify a rogue collector’ question.
Q. What happens to the clothes I donate?
A. The clothes you donate are taken back to the warehouse where they are sorted and then packaged ready for collection by a registered and approved wholesale clothing supplier. All of the items are recycled and reused via these partners
Q. How can I identify a rogue collector?
A. Unfortunately rogue collectors are common place, posing as collectors for charities most often not even in the UK, or making only very small donations and illegally using charity logo’s.
Whatever the circumstances, this is quite simply theft, and punishable by law.
LCRSL take rogue collecting very seriously and we will prosecute anyone caught.
There are a few steps you can take to check that your donations are going to the right charities of your choice.
1. Take a close look at the donation bag.
2. Does it have the LCRSL logo, address and telephone number on it?
3. Does it have one of our charity partner’s logo and registered numbers on it?
To verify that it is a genuine charity you can call 0845 300 0218 or visit the online register www.charity-commission.gov.uk
4. If they only have a registered company number this means nothing – just that they are registered at Companies House
5. Does the leaflet or bag have a phone number? A genuine charity and their agents will have landline telephone numbers not mobile numbers
6. Is the charity actually named? Be suspicious of wording that says ‘families in need’ or ‘creates employment’ or similar.
Q. What should I do if I suspect a bogus collector has taken my donation?
A. All our agents and collectors will be carrying LCRSL identification and their vehicles will be clearly marked with our logo.
Should you suspect a bogus collector please call your local Police or ring our LCRSL help line on 0800 912 23 40
• You will need to supply the address from where the charity bag was taken
• The registration number of the vehicle and a description of the suspect
Q. What should I do if my bag is missed and not collected?
A. Firstly, we always ask that bags are left out where they can be clearly
visible from the road. Where bags aren’t clearly visible they are sometimes missed by our drivers, although we do our best to spot all bags as your donations are important to us.
On the rare occasion that a bag is missed, simply call our dedicated customer service department on 0800 912 23 40 or email us on help@lcrsl.co.uk clearly stating your name and full address. We will then arrange for one of our agents to pop along and pick it up.
Q. What condition of used clothing are you looking for?
A. We prefer clean, undamaged items. Obviously items with holes, tears etc aren’t wearable. Shoes should be in pairs, tied together where possible, Thank you
